Dankzij onze donateurs kan KWF honderden baanbrekende onderzoeken, projecten en samenwerkingen mogelijk maken. Van preventie tot palliatieve zorg en van kanker begrijpen tot kanker behandelen. Het zijn stuk voor stuk initiatieven die het verschil kunnen maken voor patiënten en hun naasten.

Die impact willen we belonen én versnellen met een nieuwe prijs: de KWF Impact Award. Deze prijs is bestemd voor initiatieven die aantoonbaar verschil hebben gemaakt voor mensen die worden geraakt door kanker. En vormt de bekroning op het vertalen van wetenschap naar tastbare maatschappelijke waarde, of initiatieven die blijvend verschil maken in zorg, beleid, praktijk of bewustwording.  

Dit voorjaar kunnen initiatieven bij KWF worden ingediend. Na een beoordelingsprocedure door een vakjury wordt de award eind 2026 toegekend.

Wat houdt deze prijs in?

• Een eenmalige toekenning van €100.000, bestemd voor initiatiefnemers die met financiering van KWF een uitzonderlijke maatschappelijke impact hebben gemaakt.
• Het bedrag is vrij besteedbaar, maar bedoeld om de impact te borgen, op te schalen, te vergroten of te verdiepen.  
• De winnaar krijgt ook zichtbaarheid via KWF-kanalen en media.  

De prijs is bedoeld als beloning én katalysator voor het vergroten van maatschappelijke waarde.

Wie komt in aanmerking?  

• Initiatiefnemers die aantoonbare maatschappelijke impact hebben gerealiseerd met het door KWF gefinancierde initiatief of daaraan gelieerde activiteiten. 
• Het initiatief is lopend of afgerond in de afgelopen 10 jaar.  
• Het kan gaan om individuele of collectieve initiatieven, mits de genomineerde(n) een aantoonbare en significante rol in het succes hebben gehad.
• Het initiatief heeft een aantoonbaar en blijvend verschil gemaakt in de praktijk, zorg, beleid, samenleving of publieke bewustwording ten behoeve van de patiënt.  
• De impact kan liggen op diverse terreinen: van zorgimplementatie tot beleidsverandering. Tevens kan het zijn oorsprong vinden in wetenschappelijke doorbraken, met een aantoonbare vertaalslag t.b.v. de patiënt.  
• De impact is zichtbaar en inspireert anderen binnen en buiten het oncologische domein.  

Aanmelden en beoordeling  

Het is mogelijk om jezelf aan te melden of iemand anders aan te dragen, zolang deze een cruciale rol hebben gehad in het KWF-gefinancierde initiatief. Inzendingen worden aangeleverd via het invullen van het aanmeldformulier. En vervolgens door een KWF-beoordelingspanel initieel getoetst op compleetheid en passendheid bij de doelstelling van de award. Inzendingen die aan deze voorwaarden voldoen, worden beoordeeld door een onafhankelijke vakjury.  

De jury bestaat uit onafhankelijke en gezaghebbende experts met ervaring in maatschappelijke impact, zorg en gezondheid, wetenschap en gezondheidseconomie, en innovatie in de praktijk. De juryleden beschikken over strategisch inzicht en beoordelen initiatieven op hun aanjagende rol, samenwerking, schaalbaarheid en gerealiseerde én toekomstige impact in de strijd tegen kanker.

De vakjury beoordeelt de inzendingen op basis van de volgende criteria: 

• Wat is er concreet veranderd door het initiatief, en voor wie?  
  In welke mate heeft het initiatief bijgedragen aan verbeteringen voor kankerpatiënten, de zorg, preventie of de samenleving?  
• Toekomstwaarde en duurzaamheid 
  In hoeverre is het initiatief ingebed, overdraagbaar en schaalbaar? Is er perspectief op duurzame voortzetting en bredere toepassing binnen of buiten de oncologie?  
• Creativiteit, onderscheidenheid en innovatie 
  In hoeverre onderscheidt het initiatief zich door een vernieuwende aanpak, nieuwe vormen van samenwerking of creatieve oplossingen binnen de kankerbestrijding?
• Relevantie voor oncologie en missie van KWF   
  Draagt het initiatief bij aan een toekomst met minder kanker, meer genezing en een betere kwaliteit van leven?  

KWF Impact Award - English

Thanks to our donors, KWF can support hundreds of groundbreaking research projects, initiatives, and collaborations. Ranging from prevention to palliative care, and from understanding cancer to better treatments. Each and every one of these initiatives has the potential to make a real difference for patients and their loved ones.

KWF aims to reward and accelerate impact with a new prize: the KWF Impact Award. This award is intended for initiators who make a tangible difference for everyone affected by cancer. With this award, we want to stimulate successful translation of science into measurable societal value, as well as initiatives that create lasting change in care, policy, practice, or awareness.

This spring, initiatives can be submitted to KWF. Following an evaluation process by experts, the award will be granted in Q4 2026.

What does the award entail?

• A one-time grant of €100,000, awarded to initiators who created exceptional societal impact with KWF funding.
• The amount is freely spendable but intended to sustain, scale up, expand, or deepen the initiative’s impact.
• The winner will also receive a public podium through KWF channels and media.

The award is designed both as a recognition and as a catalyst for increasing societal value.

Who is eligible?

• Initiators who have demonstrably achieved societal impact through a KWF-funded initiative or related activities.
• The initiative must be ongoing or completed within the past 10 years.
• Both individual and collective initiatives are eligible, provided the nominee(s) played a demonstrable and significant role in the success.
• The initiative must have made a demonstrable and lasting difference in practice, care, policy, society, or public awareness for the benefit of patients.
• The impact may lie in various areas, from implementation in care to policy change. It may also originate from scientific breakthroughs, with a demonstrable translation into benefits for patients.
• The impact is visible and inspires others within and beyond the oncology domain.

Application and evaluation

It is possible to nominate yourself or someone else, provided they played a crucial role in the KWF funded initiative. You can apply through this application form.

All submissions are initially reviewed by a KWF evaluation panel for completeness and alignment with the objectives of the award. Submissions that meet these conditions are then assessed by an independent expert jury.

The jury consists of independent and authoritative experts with experience in societal impact, healthcare and public health, science and health economics, and innovation in practice. Jury members have strategic insight and assess initiatives based on their driving role, collaboration, scalability, and realized and future impact in the fight against cancer.

Assessment criteria

The expert jury evaluates applications based on the following criteria:

• Impact
  What has changed as a result of the initiative, and for whom? To what extent has the initiative contributed to improvements for cancer patients, healthcare, prevention, or society?
• Future value and sustainability
  To what extent is the initiative embedded, transferable, and scalable? Is there a perspective for sustainable continuation and broader application within or beyond oncology?
• Creativity, distinctiveness, and innovation
  To what extent does the initiative stand out through an innovative approach, new forms of collaboration, or creative solutions in cancer control?
• Relevance to oncology and KWF’s mission
  Does the initiative contribute to a future with less cancer, more cure and a better quality of life?
